Jackwatch: Louisiana keeps games from minors; doesn't prevent them from borrowing their parent's ak47's...

Our favorite lawyer Jack Thompson is at it again, this time "assisting" the state of Louisiana in passing a law banning the sale of violent games to minors. Even though Louisiana doesn't require background checks to buy handguns and considers an uzi a hunting rifle, it's comforting to know they're this concerned about kids buying the latest Elder Scrolls game. Way to go, Jack.

you know, I don't know if there is something to this video game/violent media thing or not. The world has always been violent. I don't know if violence is increasing or if we just get bombarded with it in the media and are "aware" of it more.

Does our thirst for violence influence games and media or vice versa? Or is it a cycle?

either way, I think that you could do away with all violent media and there would still be violence. What would people like Jack blame it on then?

I think Jack is simply saying that video game violence is a negative stimuli adding to the already huge soup of sex and violence that minors are exposed too.

Er, um, I mean... Jack Thompson baaad.

people defend the ownership of weapons by arguing that external stimuli and convenience don't lead to ill behavior, which is exactly the oppposite of what jack is saying here. i'm not saying that 5 year olds should be playing grand theft auto, i'm just saying that a. parents should know what they're kids are playing and b. there is a rating system for video games in place that is equal to the movie rating systems. "gamers" don't kill people know matter what jack shouts from the rooftops. in fact crime is on a 20 year low right now.

Yeah, I agree. There are already laws in place. The problem is a breakdown in family. I was talking to a lady the other day that let her 4 year old watch the new King Kong. My daughter was wondering why she couldn't watch it (she's 7).
